Final Farewell

Day 4 is about the word on every marketer’s mouth. Everyone’s focusing on it, but it’s not a focused word. What does it mean exactly? Why does it matter? And how do we do it right? Attend small group workshops about mobile ads, mobile responsive site and mobile app development. Learn about the rapid rise of mobile browsing (and what that means to us) in our interactive globe installation. And hear from Ruth McCarthy, Founder of Mobili Media, about how to get caught up -- and then get ahead.

Panel & Workshop

Join Pratt's Jewelry and Fashion Departments to explore the possibilities and limitations of plastic recycling—and the innovations taking place in the world of material anthropology.

Carolyn Shafer, director of Pratt's Center for Sustainable Design Strategies will moderate a panel discussion with leading sustainability experts from Reebok, ReFashion Week (NYC Department of Sanitation / donate NYC), Quantis, Seabling, and hyloh.

An open forum will follow where attendees can provide requests and recommendations for collection acquisitions in Pratt's Material Lab and define what sustainable material literacy means to us at Pratt.

Why you should care

Virtually every piece of plastic that was ever made still exists in some shape or form (with the exception of the small amount that has been incinerated).

80% of pollution enters the ocean from the land.

Plastic in the ocean breaks down into such small segments that pieces of plastic from a one liter bottle could end up on every mile of beach throughout the world — and it takes 500-1,000 years for plastic to degrade.

Data Driven Marketing

We’re capturing more data than ever before. And we’re doing it more precisely. But we’re still not using data to its full potential. Used well, numbers can teach us about each other, inspire our creativity and help us take risks and innovate in our work.

One highlight of the day: Peer Exchange sessions, where you can learn about the interesting ways people are using data in the industry. And don’t miss James Frederick’s impressive presentation about a rare skill -- data design.

Do Well, and Do Good

How do we find meaning in marketing? Is it possible to do more in this industry than help companies sell stuff?

Sure is. Howard Fowler of Tunate Consulting will explain how marketers can use our insights and knowledge about the customer to influence and improve the bigger business strategy.

“The sea, the great unifier, is man’s only hope. Now, as never before, the old phrase has a literal meaning: we are all in the same boat."

Jacques Cousteau
